Principal Magistrate Taiwo Ade Alagbe of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court Wednesday discharged Omar Sompo Ceesay, the former chairman of the Basse Area Council (BSAC), who was charged with giving false information to a public officer.

Ceesay’s discharge came following an application made by the police prosecutor for the case, Sergeant Manga, who informed the court that he received directives from higher authorities to withdraw the matter from the court, to which he tendered a letter to that effect.

Sergeant Manga further told the court that upon receipt of the said letter he applied under Section 68 Sub-section (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code to withdraw the case from the court and for the accused to be discharged accordingly. At that juncture, the presiding magistrate admitted the letter of directive tendered by the prosecution and marked it as Exhibit A. He discharged the accused accordingly.
