URR elects new sports committee

Hundreds of youth in Upper River Region have recently gathered at the Basse mini-stadium hall to elect a new Regional Sport Committee - the body that will steer the affairs of sports in the region for the next your years.

The day-long congress, which was monitored by the Independent Electoral Commission officials in URR, witnessed the re-election of Mr Furu Gomez as the chairman, while Pa Amadou Suso and Pa Sama Jawneh were named as first and second vice-chairmen respectively.

Addressing the gathering, Pa Suwareh Faye, assistant director of sport, advised the youth of the region to do all they can to promote sports, hinting that sports is the best platform that can create understanding and unity among youth. For his part, the first vice-chairman-elect, Pa Amadou Suso, thanked the people of Upper River Region for the trust and confidence they have in them, hence electing them to lead the sports affair for another four-year term. He promised that the new executive will do their best to bring about rapid sports development in the region.
