Change of Name (Basse Association to Friends of Basse)
July 2nd, 2012
We would like to inform you all that we have changed our name from Basse Association, Inc. to Friends of Basse (FB) effective immediately. Henceforth, the new name becomes official and will reflect in our future correspondences and deliberations. The change will be reflected on the website on or around July 4 when we mark our three years of existence as an organization.
The name change was necessary because of some obstacles we faced in registering the organization in The Gambia. By our country's registration laws, no organization shall have the name of a place come before its full acronyms, hence the need to drop (Basse) Association (BA) as we knew it. Regrettably, in as much as we liked the old name, our respect for and compliance with the laws of The Gambia, trumped it all.
Within the Executive, several substitute names came up for approval. In the end, we settled for Friends of Basse. Apart from the name change, all the current structures and operations will remain the same.
The executive body sincerely apologizes to the general membership for not bringing them up to speed on this matter. With over two years in existence, we felt it was very important to register the organization quickly to not only ensure compliance with the laws of The Gambia, but to also avoid any disruption in our project implementations in Basse.
We would like to extend our gratitude to friends of Basse everywhere and the general public for the continuous support these past years. With your help, our website enjoyed over two million hits this past year. This was a remarkable achievement.
As we continue to operate, we would be duly informing you of every Friends of Basse's undertaking in the hopes of both soliciting and implementing your inputs.
We would also like to remind the general membership that annual dues are still up for renewal. Members can pay into the association’s bank account, which shall be given out upon contacting any of the executive members listed on the website.
Mamadou Sellou Jallow
President, Friends of Basse, Inc.
