Councillors at the Basse Area Council have approved a total amount of two hundred thousand dalasis as council’s contribution towards the president’s meets the people tour and the July 22 celebrations.
Councillors at the Basse Area Council have approved a total amount of two hundred thousand dalasis (D200, 000) as a contribution towards the president’s meet the people tour and the July 22 celebrations. The councillors at the said council made an approval of the said amount during their quarterly meeting held on the 5 july at council chambers in Basse.
The NADD councillor for the Sutukonding Ward Mr Saibeh Juwara who is also the only opposition councillor challenged his colleagues for the approval of such a colossal amount of money from the tax payer’s revenue in support of what he called party activities. He stressed that if such an amount is approved for the July 22, then the same amount should be approved for opposition parties as well.
According to Mr. Juwara there is a lot that the Basse Area Council is expected to do in utilizing the revenue of the tax payers in their best interest and nothing else, he said. The chairman of the Basse Area Council Mr. Omar Sompo Ceesay in response to the NADD Councilor expressed opinion that the President’s tour and July 22 celebration are National issues; noting that the approval is therefore very necessary.
